I actually had a hard time keeping up as new variations kept launching. I'm confused about which type and what differences these LUNA have. However, I'm not going to be covering that in my post. Instead, I'll jump straight to FOREO's newest launch for their LUNA, which is their LUNA 3 Plus, and just by looking at it, you'll know that it's the next-level kind of upgrade.

FOREO claims its LUNA 3 Plus to be an ultra-smart device with infinite possibilities. To put it simply, it's a facial cleansing massager included with a microcurrent treatment too. It can purify, firm, and tighten in 2 simple steps. But, instead of only cleansing, the LUNA 3 Plus can firm and plump the skin. The uniqueness of the FOREO LUNA 3 Plus is their unparallel thermal cleansing and targeted microcurrent treatments. The thermal cleansing contains t-sonic pulsations and thermo-tech to provide the perfect temperature to cleanse the skin. Microcurrent Treatment we're referring to here is a facial treatment that is a popular treatment usually done is facial spas. How To Use FOREO LUNA 3 Plus
Understandably, it could be questioned how the FOREO LUNA 3 Plus works when you have to imagine it. The LUNA 3 Plus is not only a cleansing device like the previous LUNA's to make it easier. The LUNA 3 Plus is like a 2 in 1 device that also offers Microcurrent Treatment as well.
However, you cannot use both treatments simultaneously. In fact, you should be extra careful interchanging between modes as microcurrent mode should not be used when the device is still wet from cleaning mode.
How To Use LUNA for Cleansing mode
(Works with or without the app)
- Remove all makeup, dampen skin and then apply the FOREO Micro-Foam Cleanser.
- Press the universal button again to activate the cleansing mode.
- Cleanse using circular movements on cheeks and forehead, gliding up and down the nose.
- Press and hold the button for three seconds to turn off the device.
- Rinse and pat your face dry.

But still, their devices are not 100% dependable on the app, so it could still run at default without the app, which is considered a plus point to me.

Honestly, I just tried their targeted treatments a few times within a month of trying out the LUNA 3 Plus. I've tried all of them, of course, but not daily. The only treatment that I managed to do most of the time was the Targeted Eye Treatment. I'll continue giving my thoughts on my review below, so keep reading.
Default Settings
The setting feature for the LUNA 3 Plus in the app is to set up your personalized cleansing routine for each area of the face which FOREO has divided into 4 parts. The forehead, left cheek, right cheek, and chin. Each area is customizable for T-Sonic Pulsations vibrations and time set to focus on each area. However, the heat setting can only be set for the whole treatment, not by part.
Once you have your desired setting and save it in the app, it is the default setting used to cleanse with or without the app.
Manual Cleansing
The 'Start Cleansing' button in the app is for facial cleansing using the LUNA 3 Plus with FOREO's app. However, I don't really find this feature practical because it's only a display of the default setting, which means, settings of the device cannot be changed through this feature. This feature mainly monitors which part of the treatment you're at; that's mostly it. It has a mirror function too, which opens up the front camera, but I have never found a reason to use it.
Manual Massage
The massage treatment comes in 2 features, for massaging and Microcurrent, which both aim as an anti-ageing treatment. The 'Start Massage' button activates microcurrent treatment if you do not want to use the pre-installed treatments. This feature allows more freedom to use the microcurrent treatment the way you prefer it. For example, if you're feeling to only massage your face, you can off the Microcurrent and just use the intensity to massage your face using the back of the LUNA 3 Plus. The same goes for both ways, or just use both features simultaneously.
My Review On FOREO LUNA 3 Plus
Setting Up The LUNA 3 Plus
The set-up was pretty easy and quick. Like the other FOREO devices, it needs to be set up at the app first and paired up with a smartphone using Bluetooth connectivity.
First Impression Using FOREO's LUNA 3 Plus
I couldn't wait to try it! I was smiling wide when I first attempted to try it. I opened it with the APP first, then only I tried it without the app for cleansing. The microcurrent treatment is a new thing for me, so I got a bit shocked when I got shocked. LOL... get it?
Long story short, I didn't read the instructions properly and used the device without making sure it was completely dry. Lesson learned on that, but I couldn't help it. It was such an exciting experience, and the LUNA has been on my wishlist for ages. Overall, my first impression of the LUNA 3 Plus is that it looks luxurious, and with all the options offered, you instantly feel like it's worth the spend. I certainly took a long time to explore all the features this device provided.
My Thoughts After A Month Using The FOREO LUNA 3 Plus
I don't think I'm ever going back to regular cleansing because the LUNA 3 Plus has undoubtedly made its place as a necessity for my skin's needs. I feel that my skin is thoroughly cleansed and totally clean with the LUNA 3 Plus without even stripping my skin. In addition, it removes the feeling of uncomfortable gunk on my skin after a long day, and I don't even need to use much effort to cleanse my face.
I started to travel again, and once I forgot to bring my LUNA along, cleansing my face the following day felt unsatisfying. I felt like my skin wasn't properly clean, which put me in a bad mood to start the morning. LOL... (I sound problematic, I know). This is probably because I'm so used to the freshly cleansed face that it makes me feel uncomfortable without achieving it.
What I like about the FOREO LUNA 3 Plus
1. Wide Cleansing Area
I've been a fan of cleansing devices for years, but this is the first time I have tried a cleansing device with a wide cleansing area, and the difference is noticeable. With a wide cleansing area, I don't get much foam on my hands, especially if the cleanser tends to foam a lot. It's neater and a less messy assistant while washing my face.
2. Gripping
I love the grip of the LUNA; since it's the size of the palm, it feels like holding a bar soap while cleansing. It doesn't tend to slip, and the feel is suitable for proper cleansing. The previous cleansing device I used had a stick to hold, so water and foam usually drip to the stick, making the experience slightly unpleasing. It's not really a big issue, but I find that the grip for the LUNA is really comfortable. I'm able to cleanse longer and adequately with the LUNA.
3. Cleansing Edges Gets Easy
I particularly love how easy it is to clean the edges of my nose, which I had to put in quite an effort before. Since the LUNA has a curved shape, it makes the edges of the LUNA wide open; hence it helps to quickly clean the edges of the face, like nearby the ears, the hairline, and the edge of the nose. Honestly, this is a big difference from my previous cleansing device; as for cleansing, those parts are now more manageable and less messy. As a result, even though I'm cleansing near the edges, I don't get foam into my ears or even on my hair.
4. Can Function Manually
Before I started using the LUNA, I was worried it had to run with the app just like the FOREO UFO. Turns out it didn't have to, and I was so pleased about that. Using it with the app opens up many options for the device, but I can tend to get lazy to open it up every day. Especially on busy days and rushed mornings, I couldn't bother to open up my phone. Having it run manually makes the LUNA reachable daily. In fact, I hardly use the app with the LUNA for cleansing; I prefer to use it manually each time.
5. Customizable Default Mode
The LUNA has a default mode which you can custom according to your preference. So actually, there's no need to use the LUNA with the app once you have already adjusted it according to your preferred treatment. It took me about a week to get the perfect adjustments for my default mode. As you can see below:
Currently, the above is the perfect setting for me; I really took time to get the right setting according to my cleansing style. My total duration for each cleansing treatment is 90 seconds, so it's a bit more than a minute which you may be guessing why it is a bit long. Well, ever since I used the LUNA, I've been treating my daily cleanse as a facial as well. It is indeed pleasing to use, and instead of using it rashly like I have always done with most of my facial cleansing devices, the LUNA had made me more disciplined to use it slowly and adequately with circular motions.
If you refer to the picture above, you can see that the time set for my forehead is 30 seconds which is the longest among all the other parts. And no, it's not because I have a broad forehead. I set it for a long time because I prefer to evenly distribute my cleanser on all parts of my face before properly focusing on a particular part. So at the beginning of my facial cleansing routine, I start with a little bit of cleansing the whole area of my face before moving on to each other parts. I prefer my cheek areas a little extra time because I usually get pimples at that area, so I cleanse slowly and carefully around that area.
The maximum vibration setting set is 16 for the intensity of t-sonic pulsations, but the maximum level I could take is only 13. Why? Because the vibration is quite strong and intensity over 13 makes me feel like my brain shakes, making me feel a bit dizzy. That's why I could only set the intensity at 8 for my forehead, and the strongest is at my chin area, where I usually put a little bit of pressure because I have so many whiteheads there.
While my heat setting can go up to 50°C, the device gives a pop-up warning that heat could cause sensitivity to the skin, so since I'm still new to thermal cleansing, I feel like I shouldn't go overboard yet. However, 48°C does make me feel some slight heat while using the device. I'm not sure about how others may react to the heat.
6. Thermal Heat Mode
This is definitely one of a kind, and it feels good to have this feature. The heat helps break down particles, hence cleansing the face is more manageable and cleaner. I rarely wear makeup nowadays, so sunscreen is the only thing that blocks my skin. You know the waterproof ones could be a bit hard to wash off with water, right? Before this, I used facial wet wipes to remove sunscreen first, but I don't have to nowadays. The LUNA 3 Plus manages to remove sunscreen while cleansing, and of course, I was impressed! And the feel of the slight heat of the thermal heating is also comforting to me.
7. Easy To Clean
FOREO advises using their FOREO Silicone Cleaning Spray when cleaning the device, but I don't have it yet. So I just rinse it with water and pat it dry with my Norwex cloth. Even though I usually do a quick cleanse after using it, I never seem to see any excess soap at the bristles left out. The device is easy to clean, even if I just rinse it with water.
8. The 2 in 1 Treatment
FOREO doesn't highlight the LUNA as a 2 in 1 treatment, but it does have 2 treatment modes for thermal cleansing and targeted Microcurrent. I find this really worth the money because it's like getting 2 devices for one. The LUNA 3 Plus cleanses better because of thermal cleansing, and it's also the only LUNA with microcurrent treatment.
However, do not expect the microcurrent treatment to be the same as FOREO Bear. 'Targeted' Treatments means smaller areas because the LUNA 3 Plus focuses on the under eyes and lines on your face. It actually makes sense as the microcurrent balls are way smaller than the FOREO Bear. Don't take it as a disadvantage because you get more treatments to choose from when you own both devices.
9. Long Battery Run
The longest I used the LUNA 3 Plus without charging was 2 weeks. During that time, I just used the device without the app. Just 2 times a day for 1 minute cleanse. When it's time to charge, it doesn't take much time for a full battery either, I didn't track the time, but I could say within half an hour or less for it to be fully charged. While charging, there is a light indication at the bottom of the device, so you'll know that it's charging. It cannot be connected to the app while charging, so best just leave it alone to charge.
10. Auto-Off
The manual says the button should be pressed and held for 3 seconds to off the device, but it auto-offs when treatment is finished. That makes things so easier, believe me. It may seem nothing new, but when you actually use it, you'll find how less of a hassle it is with its auto-off feature after each use.
What Can Be Improved
1. Vibration Hints
For cleansing, at default, the treatment is divided into 4 parts: the forehead, right cheek, chin, and left cheek. However, as I mentioned above, each part for treatment is customizable according to your preference. You can check the treatment flow if you're using it with the app; however, it gets tricky to determine which is which without the app.
The LUNA's vibration indication distinguishes the time to change to the next part. It gives a slight vibration hint for you, so you know it's time to switch to the next part. But still, it's easily missed, mainly when you're not focusing, and you'll tend to get confused about which part is which if all your intensity levels are set the same.
What I think would be better than just giving vibration hints is visual hints instead. Since the bottom of the LUNA has a light indicator for charging, why not include more colours and let the lights indicate which part. Instead of a one-second blink which is easily missed. It'll be easier to catch on at which part of the treatment your at without really having to focus if there is a colour-changing light indicator that's always on for each part. That's just an idea I have.
2. Microcurrent Stings Sometimes
I'm unsure if what I feel is correct, but the Microcurrent for the LUNA seems stronger than the FOREO Bear, even though I have both at the lowest level. I easily get stung using the LUNA, even though I'm sure that it's completely dry before treatment. I rarely get stings with the Bear, but I get it each time I use the LUNA.
As I said, I'm still new to microcurrent treatment, so I can't really tell if I'm using it correctly, but I always follow the guide given. Since I always get stings with the LUNA, I have been sticking to their pre-installed treatments only instead of the manual mode, which I could custom myself.
3. Faulty App
All my reviews for FOREO devices mention that their app needs improvement. Even though FOREO upgrades its application multiple times a year, it still crashes. Sometimes I can't connect my device with the app, and sometimes I have to register my device again. It tends to crash once in a while.
Did I mention before that the app makes your device seems like a new device after a while, significantly when FOREO changes the whole app interface? However, over the years, with using FOREO devices, the app did go through significant changes, and it's way better than when I first started using it. The layout is continuously upgraded for a more friendly user experience, and I'm delighted with that.

Honestly, there isn't much difference to show since I've only been using the LUNA 3 Plus for a month. However, from my experience within a month, I noticed that I've gotten lesser breakouts even though my skin is acne-prone. Since I'm a skincare reviewer, I constantly change skincare products within a month, and before this, I can get pretty bad breakouts, but I didn't get any severe breakouts except for a few pimples. The before picture on 8/10 was taken a week before I started using the LUNA; forgive me, I forgot to snap pictures of my skin condition just before starting this trial. But you can actually see a bit of difference in my skin with the after pictures, right? My skin looks calmer and plump, even with a few pimples popping up.
Is FOREO LUNA 3 Plus Worth The Money?
I guess this is the most important question of all. As it comes with a heavy price tag. I know! It's worth half a month of our standard monthly salary, so is it really worth splurging that much for a skincare device?
My answer is still the same for all the FOREO products I own. It depends on how you value it. If you find it useful, it should be worth every penny spent, but if you purchase it because you feel you just want it, it'll be such a waste on you if you don't use it fully.
This device is like a compact facial spa with many features that could benefit your skin, so it makes sense why it's expensive. It is the only kind that combines cleansing with thermal and adds it up with microcurrent treatment. So if you think logically, you're like getting 3 devices in one. So technically, you're kinda saving more with this device.
But still, as I mentioned, it'll be such a waste for you if you just feel like you want it. You actually need to have the need for it to fully make your money worth. In the first few weeks, you may be excited and want to use all the features daily, but after a while, you'll tend to get bored and feel like it isn't special anymore. Come on, I know most of you are like that; I'm like that too. If you don't fully use what the device offers, you can get any other LUNA that FOREO offers; there's a long list of it.
However, I found that thermal cleansing is something now that my skin depends on. It just helps my skin to get cleansed better and quicker. I compared it with my previous cleansing device, and I can't go back anymore. The LUNA 3 Plus offers a better experience for me, and I love how now I'm consistently cleansing correctly, thanks to the exact timing the LUNA offers.
The only thing I'm not so used to yet is the microcurrent treatment for the LUNA. Since I have the FOREO Bear, I honestly love the treatment from the Bear better. But hold on, wait for my following review for the FOREO Bear. I'll write a detailed comparison of both devices in that post. Then, once I'm done, I'll link it here for your next read.
Cutting to the conclusion, is FOREO LUNA 3 Plus worth it? The answer is yes to me! I may have not seen drastic changes to my skin yet, but I believe this device is worth it in the long run. Besides, my experience with it has already made me dependant on it that I didn't even let any of my family members give it a try. LOL... I'm not kidding.
