Ingredients
Looking into the full list of ingredients for Hada Labo Shirojyun Premium Lotion Rich its newly improved formulation seems like a totally new product. The old formulations main ingredients were Tranexamic Acid, Vitamin C and 2 Types of Hyaluronic Acid. The INCI list was short as well. However now, the new formulation has an addition of ingredients, hence a longer INCI list and a major renovation of the main ingredients too.
Packaging
It comes in Hada Labo's signature blue semi-transparent plastic bottle with a flip cap. If you don't have a photographic memory like me or if you tend to purchase this like once a year, you might think it's the usual design but actually, it's a different design. I didn't notice instantly of course, only when I referred to the old blog post that I noticed. It's good that Hada Labo changed its packaging design so if you are aware of the new formulation upgrade, you'll know which bottle is the new one.
Texture
From what I remember, the old formulation had a rather thick formulation while this one is very runny. It's just like water making it easily absorbing and definitely not sticky as claimed.
Scent-Wise
Minimal scent to no scent at all
Experience
Honestly, I have not incorporated this into my skincare regime yet but I did test it out a couple of times and I didn't seem to see or feel and bad reaction with my skin. I'll update this post once I've tried it but I'm not sure if it's going to be any time soon.
Overall Thoughts
Honestly, I'm unsure if Hada Labo Shirojyun Premium Lotion Rich Newest Formulation is any better than their old formulation as the upgrade seems like a whole new kind of product. The main ingredients had a major change with a potent Vitamin C and Alpha-Arbutin which are quite sensitive actives that not all skin could accept. The old formulation only had Tranexamic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid which most skin could accept.
It still questions me why the main ingredient Tranexamic Acid, is completely removed from the new formulation as it was the main ingredient Hada Labo marketed for the old formulation. Does it have to do with complications in other countries? I came across an article some time ago that this lotion (rich) is banned from the Philippines due to unsafe ingredients. I just skimmed through the article so I can't really remember. It's been ages since I last used this lotion so I couldn't care to look more into it,
However, the new formulation does seem exciting to me as I know my skin is good with Alpha-Arbutin. My concern is for those who may have sensitive skin and has used this before, thinking that it's the same formulation when it's actually not. So make sure to always read your labels and INCI's.
