Ingredients
Looking into the full list ingredients of Aprilskin Real Carrotene Blemish Clear Cream, it's key ingredients are Carrot Complex, Beta Carrotene, Niacinamide and their patented M-Peptides. It's pretty much similar to their Carrot Serum but the Carrot Cream is included with patented M-Peptides which is to help with the skin barrier.
Aprilskin Carrotene Blemish Cream also includes more ingredients than their Carrot Serum with more antibacterial plant extracts that are great for acne. Their packaging states that the Carrot Cream is Non-Comedogenic but obviously looking into the decoded ingredients, you'll find quite a number of low-rated comedogenic ingredients.
Packaging
I certainly love that it comes in a sleek plastic tube rather than a bulky jar. As I always say, tubes seem to be more hygienic which is so important, especially for those fighting with acne. The tube has a simple design, doesn't look much fancy but it does do it's purpose well. It may seem that the plastic is blacked out but actually, it's see-through. You can see clearly how much cream there is left in the packaging. The opening of the cream is wide which I did not expect as it had a small-cap. However, that isn't an issue, its easy to control the amount of product to squeeze out.
Texture
This carrot cream has is slightly yellowish. It's thick, creamy and seems lightweight but once you try rub it in you'll find it does not easily absorb. In fact, I kinda had a hard time applying it every night as it takes quite some time to have it fully absorbed into the skin. This is because rubbing it in creates a white cast just like wearing sunscreen. The cream also does feel a bit oily during and after application, but once it's fully absorbed the skin is very smooth and becomes less sticky.
Scent-Wise
It has a soft sweet scent to it, very obviously different from its serum.
Experience
As I mentioned in my post for Aprilskin's Carrot Serum my experience of using this is the same as using the serum as I've used both at the same time.
I had a quite a bad breakout the last few weeks and now my skin is in healing phase from acne. I've been using Aprilskin's Carrotene range in my night routine for around a week already and I'm waking up every day seeing clearer hydrated skin. Aprilskin Carrotene line seems to work really well in drying up acne and clearing them too. I still see visible redness and acne marks though, but feeling my skin all the bumps are gone and my skin definitely feels smoother and plump.
Before & After Using Aprilskin Carrot Serum
These pictures are without filters and not edited. They are taken at the same place within the same time period. P/S: I got the date of the after picture wrong, it's supposed to be 16 JAN 21. |
Okay, firstly I'm sorry I can't really show the big difference. I skipped about a week of taking photos of my skin because I was staying at my parents, so I didn't have time to bother much about blogpost content. During that time also I had quite a breakout, probably because of hormones or because of Retinol. I'm still unsure but I stopped using retinol as soon as I tried Aprilskin's carotene range which was on 11 JAN 2020.
I like to start new routines on Monday so I could simply keep track. So I tried the carrotene range for almost a week. The after result date is wrong, it's supposed to be 16 JAN 21. I don't have a picture of my skin while I had the breakout, the last photo I shot was on 2 JAN 21 which was when my skin just started to breakout. So if you look at by glance you won't notice much difference.
However, what I experienced is that for the week that I tried the Carrotene range, it really did help reduce my acne and dried it up faster too. Try to look closely and you'll see a reduction in acne too but the redness is still obvious.
Overall Thoughts
For Aprilskin's Carrot Blemish Cream I can't say I love it as much as Aprilskin's Carrot Serum. The serum for me is amazing as its lightweight and easily absorbs into the skin. The ingredients in the serum looks more promising compared to their Carrot Cream which seems to have quite a number of comedogenic ingredients, even-though low rated comedogenic ingredients but the cream does seem to have way more of these ingredients included in than the serum.
What bothers me the most is that the absorbency in the skin is quite frustrating as it takes effort and time to have it fully absorbed into the skin. Which somehow makes me feel that this cream is pore-blocking seeing the amount of white cast it produces when I applied a bit too much of it on the skin. It needs to be applied by layers, little by little so it easily absorbs into the skin which I find it such a hassle.
I can't say this cream doesn't work as I've been seeing results in my acne fading but that's also because I'm using Aprilskin's Vita Pad and Carotene Serum at the same time. However, I'm planning to stop using this cream for a week and see how my skin reacts to that.
Rate: 3/5
Repurchase: Probably no.
