Below are the topics covered in the workshop and also a summary of the topics covered.
How to Manage The 5 Most Common Children’s Illnesses- the Common Cold, Hands Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD), Influenza, Diarrhoea and Dengue.
by Consultant Paediatrician Dr. Cham Weng Tang
It's a topic that I think every parent should concern about since it is very easy to get but at the same time easy to prevent. He also highlighted how our walls that are often overlooked can be a medium of transmission of viruses and bacteria. I'm guilty of that too as I don't really clean my walls. Now I know so I'll probably think about waterproof paint which I can easily wipe.
How to Handle Picky Eaters and What Parents Can Do
by dietician Celeste Lau.
This is the very reason why I decided to go to this workshop, because of this topic. I really had to learn as Maliq is giving me a headache every time I get him to eat. Parents were given tips on how to differentiate a picky eater versus a problem eater which somehow I feel Maliq is more than a problem eater rather than a picky one. She also shared how to handle picky eaters and how parents can introduce a wider variety of food selection in order for their child to thrive and grow.
Indoor Air Wellness
by President of Malaysian Wellness Society Dato’ Dr Rajbans Singh
He highlighted how indoor air pollution can be 2 to 5 times worse than outdoors. With harmful pollutants all over the home, and in places one would never have thought off, he mentioned that this could affect a child’s health in the long term which is somehow scary but he also shared some steps on how parents can take positive steps to improve indoor wellness, starting from home.
How to Bring Out The Best Potential in Your Child
by clinical psychologist Ms. Sam Jeng Mun
This is also an interesting topic, parents took some time to take an assessment that determined their type of parenting style. From this assessment, parents were given a better understanding about their own personality. Ms. Sam also elaborated on the 4 types of parenting styles and how the particular style may affect their child mentally.
