MARCO'S CREATIVE CUISINE, AN AFFORDABLE MULTI COURSE MEAL

If you are looking for an excellent place to meet up with a couple of your close friends, probably a date night out or maybe you just want to try out something different, I suggest you Marco's Creative Cuisine located in 1 Utama. The ambience of the restaurant itself will make you feel this is the right place to meet up as soon as you walk in. If you're with friends, you'll surely be thinking of all the beautiful shots you could take together, and if you're with a date, (either new or old 😏) you'll surely have a lot to talk about with a nice surrounding to support you. Wonder why? Keep on reading.

Marco's Creative Cuisine recently launched their 7-course meal which is only RM78 nett. Yes, you read it right, only RM78 nett! Surely this will be a great treat for your friends who have never experienced fine-dining before. No need to pull out a fortune to impress your friends, the surrounding already has the luxury feel just like a five-star hotel.
The restaurant has two separate sections which at the back of the place seems to be more private and ideal if you're thinking to spend several hours for a catching-up session. You'll find picture ready spots as soon as you walk in which is what most of us look for right?  Make sure be wise in the selections of your seats, once you've ordered you're unable to change your place anymore.

Marco Creative Cuisine is owned and run by power couple Chef Daren Leong and wife, manager Alice which both welcomed our team warmly and gave an introduction to their restaurant. Ohh.. I forgot to mention that I went here with my colleagues for lunch and team bonding to celebrate Bo's birthday. It was certainly the right choice to have a birthday lunch here.

The first thing that caught our attention was, of course, the live jellyfish display at the front of the restaurant. It does not only seem to attract the customers there but the passers-by too. Who could not be drawn to the glass aquarium if you see moving creatures changing colours by the minute? We could see almost everyone who stopped, including us, took a picture from different angles. It just looks mesmerising and not every day you get to see something like this in a shopping mall.
Anyway, let's start talking about the food here. As I mentioned earlier, Marco recently launched their 7-course meal which they refer to as 'Journey of Flavours". It comes with a palate cleanser, appetiser, soup, entree, main, dessert and drink which you could choose from several selections except for the palate cleanser and the appetiser.

Starting of with the Palate Cleanser: Velvety Matcha-Lime Shooter
This small cup of freshness will surely surprise your taste buds. When I had my sip, I was shocked. What I imagined it to be turned out to be much better. The lime shooter tasted almost similar to lemon sorbet, and it was magnificent. You can feel that it totally helps in cleansing your mouth which prepares you for the full-course journey coming up.

Next up is the appetiser, serving their Savoury Eclair, this finger food is gruyere flavoured decorated with aubergine caviar, green chile pesto and tomato confit. Again your brain will receive surprise signals on how the food tastes. It's not sweet but savoury, and if you're used to eating eclairs you'll find it a bit weird even though it does taste good.

Moving on to soups, there are three choices to choose from, and we managed to taste all three. The Strawberry Gazpacho was chilled cold soup of strawberries. It's garnished with dehydrated strawberries, capsicum and microgreens. Again another new exciting experience for me since I have never had a soup meant to be served cold and of course 'Strawberry soup' itself. This soup was ordered by Sydney, so I got to taste a few spoons.
I had the Truffled Mushroom Soup a plant-based creamy mushroom soup infused with truffle oil. Indeed it was creamy. From all the mushroom soups I've before, this soup seems to have that original mushroom taste which is something that I'm not familiar with too. It was so good that I finished mine so fast.
Eros was the only one who ordered French Onion Soup. This soup has caramelised onions with a layer of gratinéed gruyere and french toast. At first, I thought I would have this, but reading the word caramelised on the menu I changed my mind, I didn't want something sweet to start my meal. But when it came, I kinda regretted it. LOL... The chef said the onions are caramelised for an overnight, (I think) but the process making it was a hassle. That was what came to my mind when he told us how it was made, but I can't remember the details. Forgive me. :(
For the entree, they have prepared three selections to choose, but only two choices for Muslims since the Chicken Liver Parfait contains a bit of alcohol inside. It is written down on the menu, so you do not have to worry.
For Muslims, you could choose for the Garden Plater or the Savoury Ice-cream Salad. The Garden Plater is fresh mixed greens planted on top of Edible Soil and Gribiche Sauce (French Tarter Sauce while for Savoury Ice Cream Salad, it includes assorted baby leaves, heirloom tomato, seasonal microgreens and violet flowers served with savoury ice-cream.
I had the savoury ice-cream, and you guessed it, it really means savoury. My brain had a hard time to think that this is ice-cream, it's not sweet neither sour, it's just savoury.  And it goes so well with the salad served on my plate. It had taken a while before I was able to eat my salad since we were taking pictures but when I finally got to eat it, I was surprised that the ice cream didn't melt! It was still looking good and still in perfect ice-cream condition to eat. The secret to this was said to be because they manage to freeze it just enough for it to withstand an amount of time.

Now comes the most exciting part of the course, when the main dish is served. There are six selections to choose from which they offer Duck Breast with Orange Puree and Roasted Beetroot, Chicken Roulade with Brussels Sprouts, Salmon with Jet Black Hollandaise, Squid Ink Japonica Rice, Pomodoro Cream Seafood Pasta and Vegetarian Arrabbiata. We only got to taste four out of the menu, and all of them have an interesting taste.
Starting off with their signature, the Duck Breast with Orange Puree, it's served with roasted beetroot and valrhona dark chocolate. It's weird to eat chocolate together with duck breasts, but it turns out to taste amazingly good! I don't fancy duck all the time but having a few bites from Sydney's plate made me want more.
For myself, I ordered the Chicken Roulade with Brussels Sprouts. I always end up choosing chicken if I don't know what to choose. *sighs... But turns out it wasn't a bad decision since it came with a few roulades of chicken thigh with crunchy brussels sprouts and chicken jus. At first, everyone thought it was sushi rolls, but it turned out to be my chicken. Tastewise it wasn't that surprising then the other dishes, the uniqueness to this dish is probably it's served in rolls.
I also tried out Bo's dish which was the Salmon with Jet Black Hollandaise. It's an atlantic salmon with squid ink hollandaise, garnished with pickled beetroot and green chilli pesto. I should have ordered the salmon since it's cooked just the way I like it. Plus the green chilli pesto tasted amazing with the salmon; I could get enough.
The last main we got to try out was the Squid Ink Japonica Rice ordered by Tammy. It comes with Japanese short grain rice cooked with squid ink accompanied with prawn, baby squid and omelette, topped with garlic mayonnaise. The rice just blew me away, it was so good!! I never tasted anything like that, I think. Hehe... I'll probably come back for the rice, and the taste of the squid and prawn fits perfectly together.
When it's time for desserts, I could say I'll be the most excited. I have always been a sweet tooth and would usually want to try out everything. Luckily I did manage to get a taste of all the choices offered.
I ordered the Deconstructed Lemon Meringue Pie plated with elements of lemon curd, passion fruit gel, Italian meringue and white chocolate sherbet. Eros had the Raspberry Decadence, a luscious raspberry cheesecake with raspberry gel accompanied by lemon meringue shards and passion fruit gel. While Tammy had the Creme Brulee with White Chocolate Sherbet. It has lush egg custard and meringue kisses as well.
Honestly, I don't know how to describe each of the desserts because I love it all. Each dessert tasted great, and I felt sad when I took so little time to finish it. LOL... Even Sydney felt that way.

The last on the menu is a selection of drink and turns out everyone ordered the same thing. We all had the Sparkling Iced Berry instead of the Single Origin, French Press Coffee and Loose Leaves Tea.
After a full meal, refreshing back your taste buds with Sparkling Water does seem a pretty good idea, and probably everyone thought so too. We had a good talk about how the food was over a nice iced drink at it was a great pleasure. I kinda want some now.

The house also surprised Bo with a mini birthday cake! Bo looked very happy, and we also got excited because another dessert was added to the table. LOL... (The cake was so good btw.)

So that's pretty much it, the experience dining here in Marco Creative Cuisine has surely been a journey of flavours and I could say we all enjoyed our lunch there. I will surely come again with my husband and family.
